Anitsutsa -- The Boys

A long time ago, the story told that 7 boys spent all their time to play game. It called Chunkey which used the gatau'sti stone and pole. Their mother scolded them and didn't want then to play it. One day, the mothers collected some gatau'sti stone to cook with corn for dinner. Then, they said their son liked playing gatau'sti than working, so they should take stone for dinner. The boys were so angry and went down to townhouse. They want to go where didn't have their mom. They started Feather dance which went around and round with their wishes. Later, their mom saw their sons's feet which were higher and higher ain the air. They ran to catch them, but it was too late. One of their mom, she used the gatayu'sti pole to pull her son, but he sank into yhe ground and the earth close over him. The other six want to in the sky, where we saw them now as the Pleiades, which the Cherokee call Anitsutsa., but the mother which her son gone into the ground came every morning and evening to cry over the spot. At least, a small tree grew up and became the tall tree called the pine.

2) sink into( v): fall or drop to a lower place
Synonym: go down, drop down.
Cart sinks into mud.
3) grieve( v): cause to feel sorrow.
His behavior grieves his mother.
4) damp (adj.): slightly wet
Synonym: wet, moist
He didn't turn on the machine, so clothes were still damp.
5) sprout ( v): produce buds ,branches
Synonym: grown up
If we keep potato too old, it will sprout.

  1. I have never heard of this story but it was interesting. Are they of a native American tribe? It is always good to read stories because you can learn new vocabularies. I also try to read newspaper whenever I find time.
